RE: Huhges Autoformer or Surge guard

I don't use either.
I've been in probably five campgrounds over the years where low voltage was a problem and I didn't run the air conditioning as low voltage can do damage.
I've repaired electronic stuff for a living for 40 years and feel the need for either device is not that great. Or great enough to make me spend several hundred dollars that is. A GOOD autoformer would be nice to have I suppose but not if I have to buy it.
You need to put a voltage reading device in your coach. I've got a round one that plugs into your regular 110 volt outlet (about $20) and it is close enough for what I do. We have ours by the kitchen sink and keep an eye on it.
As I understand the RV wiring protocol, a rig that is rated/wired for 50 amp service actually has two independent 120VAC busses. Therefore if you have a 50AMP service, your monitoring one duplex receptacle is only monitoring half of your electrical system! Doesn't seem like a good idea to me.

RE: Huhges Autoformer or Surge guard

ndnparts response was the same I would have had 2.5 years ago & I've never regretted buying the Progressive hardwired system since. In 116 nights of camping (in mostly different CGs) we have encountered low voltage only once (an area brownout). We have had 3 improperly wired pedestals and the Progressive unit advised us & kept us safe in each case. With these units you don't need a pedestal testers as they won't allow power to the RV if there is any pedestal problem (reverse polarity, open ground/neutral, high/low voltage/HZ, etc.) plus they provide surge protection. Their remote monitor keeps you informed of the current voltage, Hz, amps, line problems & past line problems. You can actually see the amps that an individual appliance or AC is drawing at startup & thereafter.
As far as surge protection is concerned check the Joules rating of any unit you investigate. The higher the Joules rating the better the protection.
Yes, both would be nice but I couldn't justify that expense & chose full electrical protection. If it shuts down I can either move to another site, CG or run the generator.
Click HERE for a comparison chart. This site was created prior to the production of SurgeGuards 50 amp hardwired unit but is fairly accurate in its details.
Dave
Go to the Progressive wed site above and click on videos and you will learn about the many problems that you may encounter and get an insight into protection therefrom. I realize these videos are don by and for Progressive however, the fact of the matter is that the potential problems do not know a brand. The knowledge that you may gain from these videos will likely help in the future purchase decisions.

RE: Breakfast on the beach, Smoked Scotch Eggs and biscuits

I haven't had a scotch egg since Lassie was a pup. We used to have them at a "English" pub in downtown Edmonton called "The Sherlock Holmes". Great place and great beer. The deep fried thing was a bit of an obstacle however, the BBQ method surely overcomes that issue. I think Xmas breakfast just may be grilled scotch eggs and biscuits and maybe a "libation" containing ethyl alcohol. We found that a really sharp mustard was a spectacular condiment for a scotch egg.

No idea of cost, terms, etc. Large concentration of Prevost coaches is likely an advantage to any Prevost seller.

RE: Did I get ripped off?

HMMMMMMMMMMM, new rotors are generally cheaper than turning the old ones! Replacing one tire is not recommended. How many hours "labour" were you charged for? May be some shenanigans going on here.
Vic
7.5 hrs at $75/hr!
Seems like a lot of hours for what was done subject to knowing what the "inspection" entailed. The $75 per rate is probably a third below what I would have expected. Low rate, pad the hours??????

RE: Another lesson learned the hard way!

I turned on the water pump after filling the fresh water tank just before leaving for a trip the following morning. The next a.m. I went back to the coach to find water dripping on the ground. A quick check revealed that my fresh water tank was now empty, the grey water tank full and part of the carpet was saturated with water that had overflowed from the shower basin when the grey water tanks exceeded capacity. It wasn't too hard to find that my granddaughter had turned on the shower handles the day before when the pump was not operating and - since nothing happened - didn't turn the handles to the "off" position. Then, when I turned the pump back on after filling the tanks, I didn't hear the shower water running before I left. What a mess! A few hours work with a shop vac and a lot of towels got a handle on the wetness, but I'm still concerned about possible mildew. I've got a small heater blowing over the affected areas, now. Hopefully there won't be any residual damage. I am leaving my pump "off" whenever I'm not in the coach, now.
:S
Deja vous. Precisely the same thing happened to us this summer with two exceptions. 1. - we were on city water, not a good exception. 2. - the G/D turned on a vanity tap in the lav. I happened to notice water coming from the real corned of the M/H and went searching. She had turned on the tap before I got the city water connected. I now have an extra step in set up, check all of the freaking taps, inside and out before connecting to city water or, turning on the water pump. Four year old girls are not good at fibbing!!!!!!!!

RE: Skiing and RV-ing in Canada in Winter

You should give some thought to Calgary to Calgary. No drop off fee for the M/H and you have 5 great ski areas that you could do in a circle from Calgary.
Kanaskis( Nakiska), Norquay and Sunshine (Banff), Lake Loise and Marmot Basin (Jasper).
There are also a number of great ski areas south on HWYS 93 & 95 through Radium Hot Springs. You could do this in a circle from Calgary but this adds a lot of klicks!

VIN

Hello:
Some time ago there was a thread that identified the components of the VIN. That is, a glossary that identified the meaning of each of the digits or groups of digits that make up a VIN. I have searched to no avail. If any one remembers or has this information I would sure appreciate your sharing.
Thanks;
Vic

RE: 30amp / 50amp

A rig that is configured for 30 amp service will only connect to a 30 amp supply and similarily for 50 amp. The plug configurations are very different and will not connect to the wrong power service. The 15 amp service is different again.

RE: Costco now carries Pressure Pro

System does not have temperature sensor and readout! What's your point?
Only half a system. Temperature is as important as pressure!
Vic
It might be "half a system" but for the price its pressure function is worth it. It is user servicable without removing the tire and Smarttire, which is the only temp and pressure system I am aware of, costs almost three times as much installed.
Temperature is important but air pressure comes first and an increase in temperature will be somewhat reflective in an increasing pressure reading. I will forego a temp reading anyday if I have a pressure reading and I am saving a chunk of dough.
